Established in 1995, the Nepal Britain Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NBCCI) is a leading bilateral business organization committed to strengthening trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Nepal and the United Kingdom. The Chamber serves as a trusted platform for connecting businesses, investors, and institutions from both countries, while promoting mutual understanding of their economic environments.   NBCCI supports bilateral trade and investment by providing business information, consultation, promotion, and representation services to the private and public sectors. Through seminars, workshops, trade missions, and networking events, the Chamber facilitates market access, highlights export opportunities to the UK, and encourages joint ventures and investment in Nepal.

Objectives & Functions

 

  • To promote or arrange contact with and cooperation among industrialist, businessmen and other professional groups of Nepal and the U.K.
  • To compile appropriate data concerning Nepal and U.K. in the fields of trade industry economic cooperation tourism etc and establish and develop information and documentation center.
  • To provide representation in pertinent agencies of Government of Nepal or other organizations and institutions in order to promote economic relations between Nepal and U.K.
  • To organize exchange of visits or arrange for representation of people from professional groups of either countries in order to promote industry trade services and economic relations between the two countries.
  • To arrange for the transfer of technology and to promote investment between Nepal and U.K.
  • To protect or make arrangements to protect the collective interests of business and industrial group of the kingdom of Nepal engaged in business with the U.K.
  • To mediate or make arrangements to mediate in any dispute concerning industry and trade between Nepal and U.K. and to take the necessary actions for this purpose.
  • To conduct or make arrangements to conduct research in industrial commercial economic matter and to exchange and publicize relevant data (or to make arrangements for doing so).
  • To publish and exchange newspapers magazines books or booklets on industrial commercial and economic subjects as well as other useful subjects.
  • To organize meeting to promote industry, trade, technology, transfer and joint ventures.
  • To help advise or provide legal counsel on matters relating to the industry, labour, and fiscal laws of Nepal.
  • To organize trade fairs and exhibitions to promote trade and industry between the two countries.

Organization Structure

 

Structure of the Executive Committee (EC)

 

The Executive Committee (EC) of NBCCI is composed of 11 members, ensuring balanced representation and continuity of leadership. The British Ambassador to the kingdom of Nepal is the patron of the Chamber and the Deputy Head of Mission in The British Embassy is the Permanent Observer. The committee includes:

 

  • President (from ordinary members): 1
  • EC Members elected from ordinary members: 7
  • Outgoing President: 1
  • Members nominated by the President: 2

Total Members: 11

 

Office Bearers (Selected from within the EC)

 

From among the EC members, the following office bearers are appointed:

  • President – 1
  • Vice President – 1
  • General Secretary – 1
  • Treasurer – 1
  • Deputy General Secretary – up to 2

 

Term of Office

 

  • The President and all EC members serve a  three-year term.
  • They remain in office until the conclusion of the  third Annual General Meeting (AGM)  following their election.

Major Exports to the UK:
Leather goods, carpets, garments, hides and skins, Nepali paper and paper products, handicrafts, silverware and jewelry, woolen goods, pashmina, handmade musical instruments, organic and natural products.

 

Major Imports from the UK:
Aircraft and spare parts, petroleum products, chemicals, automobiles (cars, jeeps) and parts, construction machinery (bulldozers, cranes) and parts, electrical goods, gold, machinery and equipment, textiles, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and IT/technical equipment.
